Among several area golf tournaments in the next few days is the annual Buddy McGhee Six-Person Scramble at Briarwood Country Club.
The tournament is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. Teams may be all-male, all-female, or any combination in between.
McGhee was one of the founding members of Briarwood.
As of Wednesday, 38 teams had already entered. Entry fee is $55 per person which includes a mulligan. Seniors will hit from the gold tees with women hitting from the red tees. For more information, contact the Briarwood Pro Shop at 681-6185.
Decatur Country Club will be hosting the fifth-annual Newton County Stroke Play Tournament, Saturday-Sunday. In each of the previous four tournaments, a member of the host course has won. Newton's Steve Nelson won in 2000, Decatur's Dan Luke won in 2001, Thomas Kennedy won at Union in 2002, and Joel Nelson won at Newton last year.
State-wide, the State Match Play Tournament is set for today through Sunday at the Grand Bear at Saucier.
On tap for Tuesday-Wednesday is the "Big I" IIAJC Open State Championship at Beau Pre' Country Club in Natchez.
