He was past president of Temple Beth Israel, Meridian B'nai B'rith, and Meridian Model Airplane Club. He was a member of the board of directors of the Meridian Chapters of the Red Cross and United Way. He was a frequent speaker at schools and colleges about the Holocaust and Jewish Holidays.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dorothy L. Dveirin; a daughter, Janice L. Dveirin, an English teacher in Dallas; a son, Jack L. Dveirin, a lawyer in New Orleans and a sister, Miriam S. Fierman of Chicago.
He was preceded in death by parents, Louis P. and Sadie S. Dveirin and a brother, William S. Dveirin.
Memorials may be made to Temple Beth Israel.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Dean, Ronnie Dixon, Bennie Campbell, Stan Lierman, Marty Davidson and Alfred Rosenbaum.
Anyone needing directions to the Temple may call the funeral home. The procession will leave the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday.
Visitation will be Friday 1:30 p.m. until service time at the Temple Beth Israel.

Memorial services for Thomas Richard Cooper will be held Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Barham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Otis Seal officiating.
Mr. Cooper, of Meridian, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, in his home. He will be remembered for his kind and loving ways and his smile that would light up a room, his love of quarter horses and his yearly trip to Ruidoso, N.M., for horse racing. He leaves behind many wonderful memories for his wife, family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Janette Johnson Cooper; a granddaughter Kacy Rushing and her mother, Kim, of Collinsville; sons, Richard C. Cooper of Meridian and Michael Cooper of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Diann Waltman and her husband, Ronnie, of Mobile, Ala., and Wynette Moore of Meridian; a brother, W.E. Cooper; a special niece, Stephanie Smith and her husband, Stevie, all of Meridian; sisters-in-law, Virginia Little and her husband, Sid, of Montgomery, Ala. and Leeta Pearson and her husband, Dan, of Meridian; his mother-in-law, Grace Johnson of Meridian; and a very special family friend, Diana Alberts of Meridian.

DEKALB Services for Ora Dee Miller will be held Saturday at noon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cuba, Ala., with the Revs. Howard Thomas and Edward Griffin officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Church Cemetery in Toomsuba. E.E. McDonald Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Miller, 87, of Cerritos, Calif., formerly of Meridian, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Long Beach Memorial Hospital in Long Beach, Calif.
Survivors include her children, Alexander W. Miller and Benny W. Miller, both of Cathedral, Calif., Laura D. Miller of Cerritos and Ora L. Miller of Fontana, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Susie Davis of Meridian and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband and four children.
Visitation will be Friday 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at E.E. McDonald Community Chapel in Meridian.

DEKALB Services for Lamar Lewis will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church of Collinsville with the Rev. John Griggs officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Collinsville. E.E. McDonald Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Lewis, 86, of Collinsville, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at The Specialty Hospital of Meridian.
Survivors include his sisters, Etheline Clark, Hurtisene Brown and brothers, George Lewis and Eddie Lewis, all of Collinsville; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
Visitation will be Friday 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at E.E. McDonald Community Chapel in Meridian.
Arrangement were incomplete at Barham Funeral Home for Ruth Frances Lackey, 81, of Meridian, who died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare Center.
