Graveside services for Curtis Covington were held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery in the Zero Community. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Covington, 92, of Meridian, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. He served for more than 33 years as an engineering officer in the Merchant Marines, traveling to ports of call all over the world in both war and peace time. Upon retiring in 1976, he returned to Meridian to live. He was an avid hunter who loved the wooded hills of Lauderdale County and an ardent fisherman in the local lakes and streams. His greatest pleasure was in hunting and fishing with his brothers, friends and nephews. He will be missed by his dear friend and hunting companion, Gene Moneyham of Meridian and Gene's wife, Joyce.
He was a 28-year member of the Loyal Order of Moose and he enjoyed the fellowship of his friends at Moose Lodge No. 1628 in Meridian.
Survivors include his sister, V. Therrell and her sons, M.D. Therrell III and R.W. Therrell; a sister-in-law, Madis Covington and nieces and nephews, Lola Burdick, Jo Ann Palmer, D.H. Covington, D.A. Covington, Audrey Griffin and her husband, Bobby, and Janette Griffith, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, B.F. Covington and E.S. Covington; brothers, Cecil Covington, D.M. Covington, and Samuel Covington.
Memorials may be made to the Meridian Area Salvation Army.
Pallbearers were Dwight Covington, Billy Griffin, Randy Griffin, Danny Griffin, Mark Therrell, Robert Therrell, Brian Griffith, Keith Doggett and Gene Moneyham.
GILBERTOWN, Ala. Services for Edgar Lenoir Carney will be held today at 2 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Michael Carney Jr. and Derrick Clark officiating. Burial will be in Brightwater Cemetery in Needham.
Mr. Carney, 91, of Toxey, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, in Mobile.
Survivors include his wife, Thedna Davidson Carney of Toxey; his sons, Wayne E. Carney of Butler; Jackie Dale Carney of Mobile; and Terry Michael Carney of Hattiesburg, Miss.; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie Carney Long.

PHILADELPHIA Services for Hazel Jewel Link Howington will be held today at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Newton County with the Rev. Lin Chesney officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Newton County with McClain-Hays Funeral Service Inc. in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Howington, 77, of Neshoba County, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Riley Hospital.
Survivors include her daughters, Lou Tucker and Diane Loper, both of Little Rock; and Barbara Bane of Union; her sons, Belon Howington and Charles D. "Bud" Howington, both of Union; four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and her step-daughter, Viva Whittington of Toomsuba.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melton C. "Sug" Howington in 1986, and her brother, J.L. Link.

LOUISVILLE Services for Noel L. Livingston will be held today at 2 p.m. at Nowell-Tilghman Chapel. Burial will be in Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Livingston, 96, of Louisville, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson.
Survivors include his sons, Carey Livingston of Raleigh, N.C.; and Keith Livingston of Vienna, Va.
DEKALB Services for Jeanne Adams Reed will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at DeKalb Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Keller officiating. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery in DeKalb with Stephens Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Reed, of DeKalb, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004. Mrs. Reed died after a long and valiant battle with cancer. She was a Christian woman whose beauty, elegance and strength were only exceeded by her love of family.
Mrs. Reed was born and raised in DeKalb. She attended The University of Mississippi where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and was a loyal Rebel. She and her beloved husband, John T. Reed, Jr., who preceded her in death, married in 1951 and returned to DeKalb where they were co-owners of Adams Drug Store for 17 years.
Mrs. Reed was an active member of the DeKalb Presbyterian Church where she helped with the youth group and served as a member of the Women in the Church (WIC). She also was an active for years in the Business Women's Circle and served as treasurer.
Survivors include her son, Doug Reed and his wife, Rhonda; her daughter Lynn Vanek and her husband, John; her grandchildren, Gene Luke, Lamenda Hase, Staci Reed, Sammy Vanek, Jackie Vanek and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Reed, Jr., her joyful son, John T. "Johnny" Reed, III, and her loving parents, Dick and Blannie Adams.
Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Graveside services for Grace Elisabeth Young will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Revs. Dr. Rhett Payne and Jim Roberts officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Young, 88, of Meridian, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Meridian.
Survivors include her son, George M. Young III of Huntsville, Ala.; two sisters, Edith Lucas of Bowling Green, Ky.; and Catherine Johnson of Birmingham, Ala.; her brother, Joseph Cobb of Sacramento; three grandchildren, Angela Toles of Huntsville; Eddie "Ed" Young of Birmingham; and Andy Young of Huntsville; three great-grandchildren, Katie Toles, Cassity Toles and Caleb Toles.
Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Services for Debbie DuValle will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Ivey officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Ms. DuValle, 52, of Hendersonville, Tenn., died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Skyline Medical Center in Tennessee. She was an organ and tissue donor and will be greatly missed by all family and friends.
Survivors include her mother, Virginia K. DuValle; her daughter, Traci Ivey Spratt and her husband, Jon of Madison, Tenn.; sisters, Gail Todd and her husband, Jack, of Soso; Beverly Williams and her husband, Greg, of Meridian; Gina Spain and her husband, Dee, of Tupelo; and Melanie Stuckey of Meridian; her brother, Jon DuValle and his wife, Gina, of Meridian; grandchildren, Olivia Boom and Genevieve Spratt; two great-nieces and two great-nephews, seven nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Herman H. DuValle and her grandparents, L.C. and Jerusha DuValle; and Earl and Pauline Speed Keene.
