ELLISVILLE After playing three games in four days, the Jones Junior College Bobcats are a tired basketball team.
But, it's a good' kind of tired.
JCJC improved to 5-0 with a 77-67 victory over the Holmes Community College Bulldogs here Thursday night at the Bobcat Gym. The Bobcats saw a 19-point, second half lead shrink to five in the final three minutes, but they managed to hang on for the win.
The Bobcats took the lead for good with 14:35 left in the first half when Taylorsville sophomore Tim Broomfield made a four-point play. He canned a 3-pointer, was fouled, hit the free shot and put Jones up 13-9.
Heidelberg sophomore Marvin McDonald canned a 3-pointer with 4:47 left in the first half to put Jones up, 32-17. The Bulldogs cut the lead to 34-23 at the break.
Tim Broomfield and Marvin McDonald paced Jones with 22 points each. Laurel sophomore Shedrick Kirk added 11.
Holmes women 78,

The Jones women were aiming for their third straight win, but struggled down the stretch vs. Holmes.
Jones was up 37-32 at the half and took a 47-40 lead with 14:44 left when Natalie Jordan scored. The Lady Bulldogs came back and took a 53-51 lead with 9:38 left when Shalonda Williams converted an old-fashioned, 3-point play.
The teams exchanged the lead 11 times over the final eight minutes of play.
JCJC, 3-2, got 17 points from Jordan. Jasmine Versher added 14, while Brittany Baham had 12 and Sharon Pendarvis had 11.

Neshoba Central 44
The Cougars jumped out to a 48-22 halftime lead in beating the Rockets.
Newton County got 24 points from Craig Pruitt, 16 from James Broach, and 15 from Ricardo Alcanter.
Neshoba Central got 15 from Anthony Jones and 12 from Eric Smith.

The Lady Cougars carried a 37-12 lead into halftime in beating Neshoba Central.
Dominique Mapp led Newton County with 14 points. Andrea Dubose scored 11 and Nesha Ramsey had 10.
Ana Rushing led the Lady Rockets with nine points.

The Lady Generals outscored UCS 23-15 in the second half. Erin Watkins led NCA with 24 points. Tracy McMahan added 10.
UCS got 12 points from Sarah Edwards and 11 from Kristen Tutor.

Newton Academy 44
The Flames carried a 31-16 lead into halftime in beating the Generals.
NCA got 17 points from Dustin McGowin, 11 from John Shellenback, and 10 from Flynn Steverson.
UCS got 25 points from Jordan Wagner and 18 from Daniel Zabaldano.
Scott Central boys 72
Lake 63
The Scott Central boys's basketball team (2-0) tallied a 72-63 win over Lake (0-3) on Thursday.
Pierre Barlow and Eddie Patrick each tallied 18 points for the Scott Central boys' squad in the win.
Lee Johnson paced Lake's offense with 19 points, and Tyron Bobbit and Danny Taner added 18 and 12, respectively.

The Scott Central girls' basketball team (2-0) edged out Lake 38-37 on Thursday. The Lake girls fell to 1-2 for the season with the loss
Elyse Clay scored a team-high 15 points for the Scott Central girls, and Latasha Johnson added 13.
Valerie Harris scored a game-high 16 points for the Lake girls.
