PHILADELPHIA Services for Tom Smith will be held today at 2 p.m. at McClain-Hays Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Adams officiating. Burial will be in Indian Springs Assembly of God Cemetery in Winston County.
Mr. Smith, 81, of Carthage died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Veteran Center in Jackson. He was a retired construction foreman and a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Cooksey of Brandon and Sandra Kay Pope of North Carolina; a son, Jerome Smith of Carthage; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Sylvia Smith of Philadelphia and Edna Johnson.
DEKALB Services for Ida Grace Stevens will be held today at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Methodist Church with the Rev. H.C. Crenshaw officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Stephens Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Stevens, 63, of DeKalb, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in Philadelphia.
Survivors include a sister, Frances Orr and her husband, Milton, of DeKalb; a brother, James Larkin Fulton and his wife, Jean, of Wiggins; three nieces; and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James C. Fulton and Georgia Lillian Hagan Fulton.
Memorial services for Donald L. Purvis will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at a family residence in Kennesaw, Ga. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Purvis, 53, of Kennesaw, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2003 at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Rothenhoffer Purvis of Kennesaw; two sons, Adam Purvis and Casey Purvis, both of Kennesaw; a stepson, Lee McGlamery and his wife, Cheryl, of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Taylor and Abby McGlamery of Memphis; four brothers, H.D. Purvis of Dalewood, Edwin Purvis and his wife, Teri, of Meridian, Ronald Purvis and his wife, Annette, of Clinton, and Randy Purvis of Jackson, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, H.D. and Ruth Purvis.
The family requests memorials be made to Boy Scouts of America.
Services for Thomas V. Powell will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roy Garrison officiating. Burial will be in Kewanee Cemetery.
Mr. Powell, 75, of Meridian, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at his home. He was a retired employee with the city of Meridian and a member of Kewanee Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Willimena Robinson of Meridian and Joyce Chumley Wright of Toomsuba; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Geneva Dial, Dorothy Evelyn Currence and Rebecca Davis; and a brother, Hunter L. Powell.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
SEBASTOPOL Services for Amanda Tonita Tubby will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Carthage with the Revs. Calvin Gibson and Eugene Tubby officiating. Burial will be in Old Mt. Zion Cemetery. Milling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ms. Tubby, 24, of Carthage, died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a secretary for the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians' transportation department.
Survivors include two sons, Reggie Willis and Steven Gibson; her father, Randall Tubby; her mother, Marinda Tubby; two sisters, Shayna Tubby and Mia Tubby; a brother, Mason Tubby; and her grandmother, Mary Rose Tubby, all of Carthage; a special friend, Zachery Gibson; and several aunts, uncles and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Regina Tubby.
Memorial services for Lawrence C. Lewis will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Berry &Gardner Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Goodwin officiating.
Mr. Lewis, 77, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2003, at Guardian Angel Hospice. He was a retired warehouse worker at Naval Air Station Meridian.
Survivors include three sons, Vincent Lewis Sr., of Meridian, Jerome Lewis and Gregory Lewis, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a daughter, Virginia Gordon of Grand Rapids; a brother, Fred Lewis of Meridian; and three grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Arrangements were incomplete at Berry &Gardner Funeral Home for Essie Bufford, 102, of Meridian, who died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center.
