ELLISVILLE Don't put away your Jones Junior College football travel gear just yet. The Bobcats are going bowling.
The game will be played on a Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. against the
No. 2 team from the Texas Conference, either Trinity Valley, Texas, or
Northeast Oklahoma A&M. Those two play this weekend, with the loser set to meet Jones in the Heart of Texas Bowl.
Jones' bowl situation looked bleak after Saturday's 7-0 loss to the Holmes
Community College Bulldogs. Even last year when the Bobcats won the state
championship over Mississippi Delta they were not extended an invitation.
But things fell together this year.
nobody invited us," said Bobcat head coach Parker Dykes. "We were very
fortunate this year. We talked to several bowl people, but this bowl invited
us and this is the bowl that Dr. Whitehead, athletic director George
Harrison and myself thought was the best bowl for the Bobcats.
The Bobcat football players are happy to be able to put the maroon and gold
jerseys on one more time and represent the school.
who verbally committed to Mississippi State before the season. "I'm happy
that I get a chance to play with my brothers again. It's exciting that we
get to go to Texas and finish it off with a win instead of a loss."
Jones will leave for Texas on Dec. 6, practice and tour the Fort Hood
Military Museum on Dec. 7 and play the game on Dec. 8.
