Hatcher records Hole in One
David Hatcher had a hole in one on hole number five on Sept. 7 at Sumter Country Club in York, Ala. Playing with Hatcher were Murry Rew, Dick Marble and Bob Stephenson.

Wayne County No. 1 in prep football
The War Eagles of Wayne County High School solidified their hold on the No. 1 spot in The Associated Press prep football poll with a convincing 42-17 win over Laurel High School last Friday.
Wayne County led No. 2 Brandon by just two poll points last week, but picked up 11 first-place votes this week to stretch its lead to nine points over Brandon. The War Eagles had 157 total points, while Brandon had two first-place votes and 148 points.
The other four first-place votes went to No. 3 South Panola which has 139 total points and leads No. 4 Starkville by 26 points.
Newton County High School, now 3-0 on the year thanks to a 30-10 win over Morton, climbed to No. 13 in the rankings, while Noxubee County, a 35-34 overtime loser to Columbus last week, is No. 16.
Eupora has a handy lead in the Little 10 poll for MHSAA Class 2A and 1A schools and all MPSA schools.

MHS moves to 9-2 in Volleyball
The Lady Wildcats, who will host Hattiesburg in a match today at 5 p.m., took a 15-4, 15-5 win over Starkville on Saturday to move to 9-2 on the season.
Earlier in the week MHS beat Murrah 15-2, 15-2.
In the match against Starkville, Megan Mendiola led the way with six aces, while Jet'Aime Ross had five aces and three kills and Marissa Mendiola picked up five aces. Delisha McCelland had two aces and three kills.
In the win over Murrah Ross had eight aces and two kills, while McCelland had an ace and a kill and Kirsten Gambrell had two kills. Jennifer Toole added an ace.

Winston Academy blanks Winona
The Lady Patriots erupted for 17 hits to take a 9-0 road win over Winona Christian on Monday.
The win pushed Winston to 11-2 on the season. The Lady Patriots will take part in the North State Tournament on Saturday and will be the No. 1 seed out of eight teams.

Auburn-Syracuse game set for Sept. 28
AUBURN, Ala. (AP) The Sept. 28 Auburn-Syracuse game has been set for 8 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2, Auburn announced Monday.
It will be the Tigers' fourth televised game this season.
Auburn (2-1) is 7-0 in games televised by ESPN2.
Syracuse is off to a 1-2 start.
River City Hoops Coaches Clinic
Sept. 28-29, will be the dates for the River City Hoops Coaches Clinic to be held at Harrah's Hotel and Casino in Vicksburg. Cost is $50 if pre-registered and $60 at the door. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Clinic speakers include Kevin Cook of the Houston Comets, Richard Williams, former final four coach at Mississippi State University, Joye McNeilis of the University of Memphis, Lafayette Stribling of Mississippi Valley State Unviersity, Jeff Caldwell of Henderson State University, Sandra Rushing of Delta State University and Jay Ladner of St. Stanislaus High School.
