Day 15: Up a mountain

By By Chris Whitaker / staff writer
June 15, 2002
Andy and Eric Armstrong talked to the city of New Orleans Friday on WWL's radio talk show, "The Andre Show." Before stopping to do the interview, Andy said it was a good day.
It is the 15th day of the month-long European bicycle trip for Andy, 58, and Eric, 15. They began May 31 with a mission to cross nine countries in a month.
Andy and Eric had a productive day on the road traveling more than 50 miles from Wertheim to Rothenburg, Germany. Andy said, however, they didn't come in contact with a lot of people.
They traveled mostly along the Tauber River, which Andy said was about the size of the Chunky River. He said part of the river reminded him of a stream in the Smoky Mountains. Next, they headed up a mountain into a forest.
Andy said they rode up the mountain on a dirt road. He said the mountain was almost like they were going straight up.
They rode through the forest for an hour, crossing farmland on the way. They stopped at a town with very narrow roads just before calling the radio station.
One thing Andy and Eric have learned on their trip was how to tell if people could speak English.
Andy and Eric will continue heading southeast and should be in Donauworth, Germany, by the end of today.
