40th anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Leo H. Carden celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on May 11, 2002, by attending a Tony Bennett concert in Las Vegas, Nev. The couple were married at Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church in Meridian in 1962. They have one son, Tony and his wife, Laura, who live near Little Rock, Ark., and a grandson, Luke. Mrs. Carden is the former Gloria Biggers. The couple currently resides in Huntsville, Ala.
75th anniversary
Ethel Miller Coleman and George Albert Coleman will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on May 28, 2002.
They were married in 1927, at the altar at First Baptist Church of Columbus. At the time of the wedding George was employed by C &G Railroad. Following the wedding, he was transferred to Indianola, where they lived most of the early years of their marriage. He retired in 1971, as a partner, from F.W. Williams State Agency (the managing general agent for Mississippi for USF&G Insurance.
Ethel was employed until the time of their wedding by Columbus Auto Company, the Lincoln Dealership in Columbus. She retired in 1952 from Southern Railway System where she was chief clerk to the District Freight and Passenger Agent.
The Colemans have two daughters, the late Betty Coleman Mynatt and Georgia Coleman Davis of Jackson; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
They still reside in the house she designed.
80th birthday
There will be a surprise birthday party celebrating the 80th birthday of Mildred Odom Sorrell in the fellowship hall of Abundant Life Tabernacle on Saturday from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. The family requests no gifts.
