Northwood Country Club will host the Jeff Bower East Central District Eagle Club/Alumni Golf Tournament on Monday.
This year will be the fourth time the tournament has been held and will consist of a four-man scramble and a lunch and dinner.
Bower, USM's head football coach, will be there as well as retired NFL and former Southern Miss standout Sammy Winder.
Teams will be able to play the 17th hole with coach Bower. Dick Vogel, the executive director of Eagle Club, will play the 11th hole with the teams and Winder will be playing the hole No. 2 with everyone.
If anyone makes a hole-in-one on these three holes they will win a car or SUV. New South Ford-Nissan will give away a vehicle for a hole-in-one on the 2nd hole. Rick Justice Buick, Pontiac-GMC is sponsoring the 11th hole while Sunbelt Motors Mazda-BMW will be sponsoring the 17th hole.
Also on the 13th hole golfers can win prizes with the closest to the hole contest. The 14th hole will be a 5 x5 hole and the 12th hole will give a prize for the longest drive.
From 18 to 22 teams are expected to compete in the tournament. The tournament will be held rain or shine. A collared shirt and soft spikes are required and shower and locker rooms will be available all day. Beverages will be provided during play.
The day will begin with a hamburger lunch and registration from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The range will be open for those wanting to use it. Ivan Cobb, the founder of the tournament and tournament chairman, will give a welcome. Guests will be introduced and the rules will be explained.
The tournament is scheduled to start with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. After the tournament a social will be held at 5:30 p.m. so people can have a chance to talk to the special guests or get autographs. At 6:30 p.m. the dinner will start with Bower being the featured speaker.
Cellular South and Noel Coward &Staff will be sponsoring the tournament. Anyone interested should contact Dick Simmons, East Central District Director, at (601) 681-9706 or Cobb at (601) 679-5103.
