Services for Mary Elizabeth Thompson Jenkins will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home with the Revs. Bob Null and Francis Vlok officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.
Mrs. Jenkins, 90, of Meridian, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, in her home. She was a retired executive secretary for several former directors of East Mississippi State Hospital. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Junice Moody-Mitchell, Ann Wimberly-Plowman, Carol Killam and her husband, Mark, of Texas, Joan Leslie Jenkins, Faye Ethridge and her husband, Thomas, of Petal; 18 grandchildren, Steve Moody, Michelle Blood, Leigh Barber, Julie Mitchell, Belynda Bramlett, Sheryl Powell, William "Rusty" Powell, Michael D. Powell, Lauren Clay, Janis Overby, Cynda Wimberly, Bud Wimberly, Jada Freeman, Suzanne Kiesling, Gregory Killam, Jason Killam, Tammy Ethridge and Thomas Ethridge III; 37 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lesley Harvey Jenkins, her parents, Hiram H. and Lurah Thompson, a daughter, Jean Powell, a grandchild, Gina Wimberly and a son-in-law, Jerry Plowman.
Pallbearers will be Steve Moody, Rusty Powell, Thomas Ethridge, the Rev. Mark Killam, Jimmy Bramlett, Bruce Clay, John Overby, Jeff Freeman, Bud Wimberly, Caleb Clay and Richie Bailey.

NEWTON Services for John Dale McLendon will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at James F. Webb Funeral Home Chapel in Newton, with the Rev. Steve Pouncey officiating. Burial will be in Sweet Water Baptist Church Cemetery in Leakesville at 2 p.m.
Mr. McLendon, 65, of Newton, died Sunday, March 28, 2002, at Newton Regional Hospital. Mr. McLendon retired from the Mississippi State Coastal Plain Experiment Station. He was born in Greene County and was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, serving as deacon. He also loved hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Lucille Scoggins McLendon of Newton; two daughters, Darlene Barrett and her husband, Patrick, of Rammstein Air Force Base, Germany; Dawn McNeil and her husband, Steve, of Forest; a son, Jimmy Dale McLendon of Newton; five sisters, Annell Walley of Leakesville, Christine Nelson of Pascagoula, Peggy Crocker and Linda Kay Walley, both of Leakesville, and Wanda Graves of Philadelphia; two brothers, Charles Frank McLendon and Clyde Alton McLendon, both of Pascagoula; two grandchildren, Caitlain Barrett and Andrew Barrett, both of Germany.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gaines Elmo and Roxie Perry McLendon.
The family requests memorials be made to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church , 4523 Highway 503, Newton, MS 39345.
Pallbearers will be Joey Murphey, Billy Johnson, Tyler Norman, Ross Little, Lamar Swanner, Mack Comans, Doug Everett, Tony Adams and Larry Huey.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, and John W. McMillan and Tommy Sanders.
Visitation will be today 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Machine tender
BUTLER, Ala. Visitation for Mitchell "Wayne" Shankles will be today 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at Bumpers Funeral Home.
Mr. Shankles, 58, died Saturday, April 27, 2002, in Enterprise. He was a machine tender for Georgia Pacific.

PHILADELPHIA Services for George McPherson will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Young officiating. Burial will be in Antioch Cemetery. McClain-Hays Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McPherson, 71, of Columbus, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. He was born in Monroe, La., and spent his early childhood in Vicksburg. He spent the last part of his childhood and adult life in Gulfport. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherrill Ann McAlpin of Columbus; sons, George Randall McPherson of Greenville and Robert Lee McPherson of Union; grandchildren, Christopher James McPherson, Elizabeth Christine McAlpin, Joshua Lee McAlpin, Jesse Galen McPherson, Meghan Leigh McPherson and Daniel Scott McAlpin; a sister, Geraldine Adelle Goodner and her husband, Lee, of Cabool, Mo.; a brother, John Melvin McPherson of Delhi, La.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Elizabeth Bishop McPherson in 1993; and brother, Edwin Elmore Riley McPherson.
Visitation will be today 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

NEWTON Services for William Harold Webb Sr. will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Decatur United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Owen officiating. Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery. Barham Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Webb, 82, of Decatur, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at Bedford Care Center in Newton. Mr. Harold, as most people affectionately knew him, was born Dec. 27, 1919, the youngest of eight children, to John and Minnie Webb of Decatur. He was a veteran, a shriner, but to most everyone, he was known as an honest politician and loyal friend. Harold was married to Mary Nell King and they had three children.
Those of you that knew Harold are aware of his love and dedication to his beloved Decatur and Newton County. He was elected circuit clerk in 1948 and held the office until 1968. He then ran for and was elected Newton County chancery clerk, an office he held until his retirement in 1983.
