Florey plans access road between NAS and Highway 45

A new access road linking Naval Air Station Meridian with Highway 45 is one of Lauderdale County Supervisor Hank Florey's top priorities in his district.
Florey said Phase 1 would extend from the John C. Stennis Drive-Fred Clayton Road intersection to the Lockhart-Trailer Court Road intersection. Phase 2 would go from Trailer Court to Highway 45.
Capt. Jeffrey Dickman, NAS Meridian's commanding officer, said the planned access road is a much-needed project and will be paid for with state funds.
Besides the NAS Meridian access road, Florey also is planning work on a number of other street projects in his district. They include asphalt work on Cotton Gin Road and Dogwood Lake Road.
Drainage and culvert work also have a high priority. For example, Florey said, the Northeast Ballpark at Van Zyverden Road will get a new culvert and a new parking area this year.
Florey said he is especially proud of several recent projects, including the doubling of the center line on Minnow-Bucket Road to prohibit passing in some areas and reduce accidents.
He also said John C. Stennis Drive was re-surfaced and received ditch and shoulder improvements. He said the street was turned over to the state for maintenance and law enforcement.
