    OBITUARIES FOR WEDNESDAY, AUG. 15, 2001

    FRANCES L. DEARMAN
    Homemaker
    Graveside services for Frances L. Dearman will be held today at 11:30 a.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Alan Randall and Lannis May officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
    Miss Dearman, 77, of Meridian, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Guardian Angel Hospice. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church.
    Survivors include two sisters, Lucille Miles and Anne Mae Burnham and two brothers, Robert "Bob" Dearman and Jack Dearman, all of Meridian; and several nieces and nephews.

    GILBERTOWN, Ala. Services for Jeff Davis "JD" Johnson will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bobby Brown and Jack Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Barrytown Cemetery.
    Mr. Johnson, 87, of Barrytown, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, in his home.
    Survivors include his wife, Ruth T. Johnson of Barrytown; five sons, Gerald "Pete" Johnson, Roy Johnson, Ricky Johnson and Ronney Johnson, all of Barrytown, and Wayne Johnson of Joe City, Ariz.; three daughters, Jean Branson of Aquilla, Sylvia Spain of Phoenix, Ariz. and Seleta Sims of Coffeeville; four brothers, Henry Johnson, Cecil Johnson and Grady Johnson, all of Barrytown, and G.H. Johnson of Mobile; a sister, Sadie Clark of Barrytown; 25 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
    Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
    EWELL BYRD BASS
    Retired from Gulf Oil Company
    Graveside services for Ewell Byrd Bass will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Magnolia Cemetery with the Revs. Dr. Raymon Leake and Steve Johnson officiating. James F. Webb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Bass, 90, of Meridian, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Beverly Health Care. He was retired from Gulf Oil Company where he was a district sales representative for the Birmingham office.
    Mr. Bass was a member of First Baptist Church and a Deacon. He was a longtime member of the Rotary Club and a veteran of World War II.
    Survivors include his wife, Laura Kimbrell Bass and her children, Reid Kimbrell, Dorothy Reeves, Marcia Shirley and Cathy Feltenstein, all of Meridian; a son, George Leon Bass of Biloxi; and a daughter, Arlene Bass Day and her husband, Dean, of Augusta, Ky. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren including Jason Bass and his wife, Leslie, of Meridian as well as several great-grandchildren.
    He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Snider Bass; a sister, Emma Louise Bass; and his parents, William and Mary Bass.
    The family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church Building Program or a favorite charity.
    Visitation will be today from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
    CURTIS ELLIOTT
    Retired U.S. Air Force
    Arrangements were incomplete at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home for Curtis Elliott, 71, of Meridian, who died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at the V.A. Medical Center in Jackson.
    Mr. Elliott served 33 years in the armed forces with tours in the Army, Air Force and Navy.
    During his service of duty he received the following recognitions from the Department of the Navy: a certificate of training on the completion of the Course Fundamentals of Supervision for Navy Civilian and Equal Employment Opportunity. He retired from the U.S. Air Force on May 1, 1972.
    On Jan. 29, 2001, he was nominated as a charter sponsor for outstanding commitment to the U.S. Air Force Memorial.
    EARLINE SKELTON CRITSER
    GREENVILLE, S.C. Services for Earline Skelton Critser will be held Sunday at her home. Burial will be in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Hopewell, Ala., on Aug. 22. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home and Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Critser, 58, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, in her home. She was born in Butler, Ala., the daughter of the late Christopher and Mattie Hand Skelton. She was the wife of Col. Ronald R. Critser, former Commanding Officer of Marine Corps Air Station in Kaneohe, Hawaii. She attended Brookwood Community Church in Greenville.
    In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Melissa A. Bourdon and her husband, Dr. Bruce Bourdon, of Greenville; a son, Jeffery D. Critser and his wife, Sonya, of Cary, N.C.; two sisters, Cora S. Ray of Meridian and Mattie Faye Corken of Poplarville; two brothers, T.L. Skelton of Butler and Barber Skelton of Linden, Ala.; four grandchildren, Jan and Alec Critser and Brianne and Blake Bourdon.
    The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 600 N. Main St., Suite 2, Greer, S.C. 29650-1641.

    Arrangements were incomplete at Barham Funeral Home for James K. Jones, 80, of Toomsuba, who died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Guardian Angel Hospice.
