    OBITUARIES FOR FRIDAY, JUNE 1, 2001

    HILLIE D. TALBERT JR.
    SARALAND, Ala. Services for Hillie D. Talbert Jr. were held Wednesday in the Chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
    Mr. Talbert, 66, a native of DeKalb, Miss., and a resident of Saraland, died Monday, May 21, 2001, at a hospital in Alabama. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.
    Survivors include his wife, Mavis Talbert; children, Lisa Stringer, Kim Douglas, Kelly Buckner, David Talbert, Eric Talbert and Jo Ann Andress; 13 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, all of Meridian, Miss., Hilda Watson, James Talbert, Elizabeth Shehea, C.M. Mars, Johnny Mars, Gail Settles and Yvonne Robinson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
    He was preceded in death by his father, Hillie David Talbert Sr.; mother, Gracie Lee Mars; stepfather, E.T. Mars; and a brother, Richard Mars.
    DR. JOSHUA HILL
    Professor at Texas Southern University
    HOUSTON, Texas Services for Dr. Joshua Hill will be held today at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert E. McGee officiating. Burial will be in Paradise South.
    Dr. Hill died Sunday, May 27, 2001. He was a native of Meridian, Miss.
    Survivors include his wife, Etta; four children, Cassandra, Joshua Jr., Jonathan and Jason; sister, Johnnie Pearl Loper and her husband, M.C., of Meridian; two brothers, Nathan Hill and his wife, Mamie, of Quitman, Miss. and Willie Anderson and his wife, Delia, of Copley, Ohio; and several other relatives and friends.
    He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. and Mrs. John P. Hill; four brothers and a sister.
    A scholarship in the name of Dr. Hill has been established at Texas Southern. Those interested may contact the Texas Southern University Foundation, 3100 Cleburne, Suite 206, Houston, TX 77004.
    ALBERT JACKSON LONG
    Night watchman
    BUTLER, Ala. Services for Albert Jackson Long will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Red Springs Assembly of God with the Revs. Jerry Turner and Donald Turner officiating. Burial will be in Eureka Cemetery in Fordtown with Bumpers Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Mr. Long, 86, of McIntosh, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001.
    Survivors include his son, Billy Long, of McIntosh; two daughters, Louise Mazingo of Gilbertown and Kathy Brownlee of Butler; four sisters, Ethel Phillips of Morton, Miss., Frances Lundy of Tanner Williams, Edna Pour and Bama Gardner both of Sandersville, Miss.; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
    Visitation will be 6 p.m. today at the church.
    LILLIE MAE STERLING
    Homemaker
    QUITMAN Services for Lillie Mae Sterling will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. John Methodist Church in DeSoto, with the Rev. George Price officiating. Burial will be in Archusa Memorial Gardens with Turner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
    Mrs. Sterling, 74, of DeSoto, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker.
    Survivors include two daughters, Mary Inell Sterling-Fitzgerald of Los Angeles and Johnnie Alice Smith of Gulfport; four sons, Jessie J. Sterling and Nora D. Sterling, both of DeSoto, Benjamin Sterling of Huntsville, Ala. and M.T. Sterling of Quitman; two sisters, Eva Bell Stokes of DeSoto and Marcella Smith of North Las Vegas; two brothers, James McDowell and Johnn McDowell both of North Las Vegas; two aunts, Zenola Butler of Detroit and Florence Davis of DeSoto; 32 grandchildren, 58 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
    Visitation will be today from 6 p.m.-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
    YIP FA IP
    RIDGELAND Services for Yip Fa "Sandy" Ip will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
    Mrs. Ip, 60, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was a native of Canton, China. She came to the United States in 1970, moving to Boston, Mass. In 1978 she moved to Meridian. She and her husband were co-owners of Hawaii Delight Restaurant in Meridian. She had been a resident of Houston for two years.
    Survivors include her husband, Yiu Kwai Ip of Houston; two sons, Garrett Ip of Hattiesburg and Gregory Ip of Picayune; a granddaughter, Paige Ip of Meridian; her mother, Shui Yeung Seto of Jackson; three sisters, Tsui Fa Chin of New York, Peggy Wu of Ridgeland and Cindy Luk of Jackson; three brothers, Johnny Lee Seto of Jackson, Yeung Seto of Greenwood and Bob Seto of Boston.
    Visitation will be Saturday from 3 p.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday after 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

    Arrangements were incomplete at Berry and Gardner Funeral Home for Dorothy Matthews, 74, who died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in Sacramento, Calif.
