    Excellence in education

    Meridian Community College served as the host site for the district competition of the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics junior high math contest.
    More than 30 seventh-graders and eighth-graders from Meridian and Lauderdale County public and private schools competed in this annual contest.
    First place winners were Justin Carter, eighth-grader at Northeast and Maurice Langston, seventh-grader at Northeast. Second place winners were Jacob Garrett, eighth-grader at Northeast and Sarah Young, seventh-grader at Northeast. Third place winners were Camrin Mack, seventh-grader at Carver Middle School and Steve Mann, eighth-grader at Clarkdale.
    The following Newton County Elementary students were named to the Principal's List and Honor Roll for the third nine weeks:
    First Grade
