Lady Eagles win fourth straight

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles continued their strong play, building on what head coach Robert Eakins hinted at as changes in coaching.
Whatever tweaks Eakins has made have worked, as MCC has won four straight, with Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Georgia Perimeter College.
In the second game, the Lady Eagles plated runs in their half of the second and seventh innings to stake to a 2-0 lead.
The hosts put the heat on however, as the first two batters reached on infield errors by the shortstop and second baseman.
With runners on the corners, GPCC tried to pull off a double steal, but the Lady Eagles hung tough defensively and pulled off the rare 2-6-2 double play to get the runner out at second. The lead runner was gunned down at the plate.
With the air out of the GPCC sails, MCC got the final out to improve to 23-9.
Amy Adcox got the win to roll to 16-2 on the year. Adcox allowed one hit and four strikeouts, while walking none. After allowing a leadoff hit in the bottom of the first, Adcox settled down by retiring the next 22 batters.
Stephanie Dixon led the 10-hit attack with a 3-for-4 effort. Dreka Shumpert and Faith Robinson each collected a pair of hits as well with Robinson getting a double. LaKenya Wilson also added a double.
Gm 1, MCC 7, Georgia Perimeter, 0: After a scoreless two innings, the Lady Eagles blew it out in the third with five runs.
Ryan Reid upped her mark to .500 (7-7) by scattering seven hits through seven innings. She also walked one and struck out one.
Tara Johnson took the loss for the home team.
Wilson blasted her fifth homer of the year to go with another hit. Shanna Blanks added a triple and Aree Jenkins had a pair of hits, including a double. GPCC committed three errors in the opener. Both teams combined to leave 27 runners on base on the day.
The Lady Eagles will make a stop another stop in Alabama before returning home, as they face off against Gadsen State in a single game today beginning at 1 p.m.
