MCC Lady Eagles win two in Delgado tourney

Playing its third game in three days, the Meridian Community College Lady Eagles outscored Shelton State 16-4 in overtime and took a 73-61 win in the Delgado Classic basketball tournament Saturday.
MCC improved to 9-2 with the win and will travel to Coahoma Wednesday for a doubleheader.
Tommie Waldon, who finished with 10 points, provided the big spark for MCC with seven points to begin the overtime period.
Ole Miss signee Catesha Riley led MCC with 20 points while Angela Bullock had 14 points while Melino Tims chipped in 11.
MCC women 80, Pensacola, Fla. 71: Meridian Community College's women overcame a 13-point second-half deficit to knock off Pensacola, Fla., 80-71 in the Delgado (La.) Classic basketball tournament Friday.
The Lady Eagles, who are now 8-2 on the season, trailed 37-34 at halftime before putting up a 46-34 advantage in the second half.
MCC was down 13 points with 12 minutes to go, and that's when MCC head coach Hilary Allen's team went to an effective full-court press.
Angela Bullock pumped in a team-best 26 points to lead MCC, while Catesha Riley scored 16. Former Meridian High standout Tijwana Collins scored 14 and Tommie Walden added 10 for the Lady Eagles.
MCC returns to action today at 2 p.m. against Shelton State in the Delgado tourney in New Orleans, La.
Southern Union men 84, MCC 74: MCC fell to 2-8 on the season as they weren't able to overcome a strong Southern Union squad.
Derrick Houston paced MCC with 21 points while Rocky Lane chipped in 19.
