HODGES—Community members turned out over the weekend for the annual Independence Day celebration in the town park to enjoy free hot dogs, cold drinks and a fireworks show.

Picnic tables under the pavilion provided a place to sit, eat and visit. Cornhole and a big inflatable Velcro dart board were set up, and the Hodges Senior Citizens sold popsicles, apple butter and baked goods.

Mayor Brian Scott said one of his favorite parts of the event is seeing the community come together.

“I love that we give away free hot dogs and drinks,” Scott said. “I always enjoy the fireworks.”

Joyce Saad, a former Hodges mayor, said the gathering is a welcome break from daily routines and a chance to reconnect with neighbors.

“I just love the camaraderie with people. I’m a people person. We don’t see each other that often, so we get to catch up with old friends,” Saad said.

Julia Suggs and Alison Armstrong, who have both worked for the senior center, highlighted the simple pleasures that keep people coming back to the event each year. Armstrong said the celebration shows the town’s close-knit spirit.

“I love seeing the fireworks and the people and the good food,” Suggs said.

“I love seeing the smiles on people’s faces and just getting to have everyone come together to celebrate,” Scott said.
