OPINION: My Thoughts

He Says

It was a topsy turvy week for schools last week. Monday was a holiday. Wednesday, schools were out because of snow. Thursday and Friday were late arrival days because of extreme cold. I’m sure students could get used to a schedule like this. It will be a challenge getting everyone back in a consistent frame of mind …

Spring is upon us … the weather is finally going to warm up this week to near 70. Spring fever is sure to strike. Most long-range forecasts say winter is over. However, I’m sure Old Man Winter has a bite or two left before he leaves for good …

Most schools started their baseball and softball seasons last week. Good luck to those teams as they navigate the season this year. Baseball playoffs will begin around mid-April. Softball playoffs will begin in late April …

Auburn won its 25th game of the season for the eighth time in the Bruce Pearl era. It’s hard to emphasize what Pearl has done to the game of basketball in the state of Alabama. It is easy to see his success at Auburn. Alabama wouldn’t put the resources into basketball were it not for Pearl and his success at Auburn. Pearl has equalized basketball with football in the state of Alabama …

Oh, and Pearl has Auburn ranked the number one team in the country for the fifth straight week. Now, here’s to hoping he can keep it rolling through March. To win the NCAA tournament, one must be good (which Auburn is), must be playing their best basketball at tournament time (they’ve leveled off a bit, even though they keep winning, and they must be lucky (remains to be seen). Selection Sunday is March 16 …

We need to start something like the Champions Cub in Franklin County. This would go to the school with the top sports program based on accomplishments in the postseason. We haven’t had a lot to cheer about this year in the postseason but in years past there would have been some really good competition between schools …

Elon Musk and his DOGE team have been hard at work recently ruffling feathers and making cuts to the federal workforce and making people justify their jobs. This doesn’t sound like a bad idea. It happens in the real world all the time. I find it funny that people are feigning anger and exasperation that the DOGE team has access to Social Security numbers and personal information …

The very same people who I’ve seen gripping about it are on Facebook and other social media platforms doing the whining. They clearly have no idea how much personal information they’ve given over to Musk (X/ Twitter/PayPal), Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Larry Page and Sergy Brin (Google) and more. These people also clearly don’t have a problem sending money electronically through Venmo and PayPal. Just give the fake outrage a rest … Have a great week!
