Phil Campbell girls defeat Sheffield Bulldogs

Sophomore Leela Baker scored 26 points to lead the Phil Campbell Bobcats past the Sheffield Bulldogs, 54-26, sending the Bobcats to the Class 3A Area 15 tournament finals to face Mars Hill.

Phil Campbell dominated the game from the outset, jumping out to a 23-2 first quarter lead. The Bobcats extended their lead to 39-11 by halftime. Firmly in control, Phil Campbell led 51-19 at the end of the third quarter.

Sidda Rogers followed Baker, scoring 10 points. Kaylie Motes added 7 points, Macy Hardy 6 points, Georgia Motes 3 points and Mia Ambrosio 2 points.

Phil Campbell played Mars Hill on Tuesday night. The Bobcats will play in the subregion on Friday.

Varsity Boys Sheffield 58, Phil Campbell 56 (OT)

The Phil Campbell varsity boys were eliminated from area play with a 58-56 overtime loss to the Sheffield Bulldogs.

Phil Campbell trailed 10-6 at the end of the first quarter, but the Bobcats battled back to take a 20-19 first half lead.

Sheffield pulled ahead 35-31 at the end of the third quarter. Phil Campbell again clawed its way back to send the game into overtime with the score at the end of regulation being 51-51.

Austin Elliott and Madden Welch led the Bobcats with 16 points and 14 points, respectively.
