Russellville volleyball squad gains momentum with big wins

The Russellville High School varsity volleyball team had a big week with two victories in big matches. First, RHS went to Belgreen and defeated their Franklin County neighbors and then the Golden Tigers secured a home win over area opponent West Point the following evening.

Russellville topped Belgreen by a 3-0 total. RHS outpaced the Bulldogs 25-11, 25-17 and 25-17. Blevyn Sappington had 13 digs, six kills and one ace for the Golden Tigers. Laila Hill added nine kills and two digs. Bella Malone had four aces, three kills and two digs. Fatima Ramirez totaled 12 assists, three digs and two aces. Bri McCulloch had 11 digs, two kills and one ace.

RHS got a 3-2 area win over the West Point Warriors after dropping the second and third sets of the match. Russellville won the first set 25-21, but then WPHS took sets two and three by 25-14 scores each time. The Golden Tigers then earned the victory by taking set four by a 25-21 total and the final set 15-11.

Hill helped lead Russellville with 16 kills and two digs. Alexia Groce had 16 assists, five digs and four aces. Sappington added 14 kills, seven digs and two aces. Ramirez had nine digs, nine assists, four kills and two aces and McCulloch added 25 digs, three kills, three assists and one ace.

RHS was scheduled to play Wilson and Deshler Sept. 12, but the tri-match was canceled because of weather conditions.
