Vina football team defeats Phillips Bears

The Vina Red Devils improved to 2-0 with a 28-6 win over the Phillips Bears on Friday night.

“I’m extremely proud of our guys for going on the road and picking up a big region win,” said Vina coach Cody Renfrow. “They responded well against adversity, and we are excited to open the season 2-0 for the first time in a long time.”

Trevor Baker had 11 carries for 107 yards and two touchdowns before leaving the game midway through the second quarter.

Christian McCarley had 127 yards rushing and a touchdown. He also had an interception on defense. Cai Lawler scored a touchdown and led the team with seven tackles. Lane Easterling recorded five tackles.

Vina will host Shoals Christian on Friday night.
