Belgreen splits series with Hackleburg

The Belgreen Bulldogs (11-11) picked up a series opening win over the sixth-ranked team in Class 1A versus the Hackleburg Panthers (7-2) last week. The Bulldogs went on to lose the next two games to finish runner up in Class 1A Area 14 and will travel to Victory Christian in Pell City on Friday for the first round of the playoffs.

Senior Will King led the Bulldogs to the series-opening win at the plate and on the mound. King went 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored two runs. He also pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit and no earned runs.

Landon Cox had two hits, a RBI and scored twice. Ty Hamilton had a hit and two RBI.

Hackleburg scored first in the bottom of the second to take a 1-0 lead, but Belgreen scored two in the third and three in the fourth to take a 5-1 lead and added two more in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to 7-1.

Hackleburg beat Belgreen 13-1 in game two. Belgreen could got one run across despite seven hits.

Ty Hamilton and Colton Ashton led the Bulldogs at the plate with two hits each.

Hackleburg beat Belgreen 8-2 in game three. The Bulldogs got one hit by Rush Berryman in game three.
