AHSAA releases classifications for football, volleyball

The Alabama High School Athletic Association has released the new classifications for the 2024-2026 school years. Every two years, the AHSAA reclassifies schools based on the number of students each school has in grades 9-11.

Russellville remained in Class 5A. Phil Campbell remained in Class 3A. Belgreen joined Red Bay and Tharptown in Class 2A. Vina remains in Class 1A.

Below are the new region and area alignments for football and volleyball:

Football Regions for 2024-2026

Class 5A Region 7
Russellville, Ardmore, Brooks, East Limestone, Lawrence County, Priceville, West Point

Class 3A Region 5
Phil Campbell, Carbon Hill, Gordo, Hale County, Hanceville, Midfield, Oakman, Vinemont

Class 2A Region 8
Belgreen, Red Bay, Tharptown, Decatur Heritage, Lexington, Tanner, Winston County

Class 1A Region 7
Vina, Addison, Cherokee, Hackleburg, Meek, Phillips, Shoals Christian, Waterloo

Volleyball Areas for 2024-26

Class 5A Area 15
Russellville, Brooks, Lawrence County, West Point

Class 3A Area 15
Phil Campbell, Colbert County, Colbert Heights, Sheffield

Class 2A Area 14
Belgreen, Tharptown, Covenant Christian, Mars Hill

Basketball areas will be released at the conclusion of the state tournaments in March. Baseball, softball and soccer areas will be released in June.
