Michael Nanney takes on RBHS principal role

Originally from Itawamba County, Mississippi, Michael Nanney is a graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School, attendee of Itawamba Community College, graduate of Delta State University – and now, principal at Red Bay High School.

Nanney has about 20 years of experience in administration, nearly 14 of those years as a principal. He spent six and a half years as superintendent for Itawamba County.

He said he’s excited for his new role in Red Bay. “The community is very supportive of the school, and I’m excited about being a part of that,” he explained. “Directly before this, I spent two years as a teacher in Lamar County, working in Lamar County and Sulligent high schools.”

Family members include wife Christi, a pharmacist, and two children, daughter Carlee and son Trey. Carlee is in physical therapy school at Belmont University in Nashville, and Trey is going into his senior year at Mississippi State.

“I feel blessed,” added Nanney, “and I’m appreciative of Franklin County Superintendent Greg Hamilton and the Franklin County Board of Education for giving me this opportunity.”
