Phil Campbell routes Colbert Heights

Kyle Pace threw for four touchdown passes as the Phil Campbell Bobcats routed the Colbert Heights Wildcats 42-7 to remain unbeaten in region play.

“We’ve been working really hard on our passing game to try to loosen up some of the defenses,” said Phil Campbell Coach Kevin Barnwell. “Kyle had a really good week of practice and has made a commitment to being a better football player. He has a lot of potential if he continues to improve.”

Pace threw touchdown passes of 26, 23, 53, and 80 yards on the night, connecting with Blain Goodson on three of those passes.

“Blain is another one of those players that has made a commitment to getting better,” Barnwell explained. “He has gotten faster, and he has improved his hands, catching the ball.”

Pace wasn’t the only one making the big plays. Andrew Green had a 49-yard touchdown run, and Sage Raper a 78-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Pace completed five of six passes for 205 yards and four touchdowns. Goodson’s three touchdown catches covered 129 yards.

Phil Campbell scored 42 unanswered points through three quarters before the Wildcats were able to get on the board.

The Bobcats’ first score came with 7:28 to go in the first quarter on a Pace pass to Goodson for 26 yards. Goodson ran the ball in for the two-point conversion to give Phil Campbell an 8-0 lead.

Pace and Goodson connected again with 3:06 to go in the first quarter – this time for 23 yards – and they scored to give the Bobcats a 14-0 lead.

Pace opened the second quarter with a 53-yard touchdown pass to John Randle Herring. Goodson’s two-point conversion run gave Phil Campbell a 22-0 lead.

Andrew Green broke free for a 49-yard touchdown run with 4:06 to go in the second quarter to give the Bobcats a 28-0 lead.

Phil Campbell closed out the first half with an 80-yard touchdown strike from Pace to Goodson to give the Bobcats a 36-0 lead going into the locker room.

Sage Raper opened the second splitting the middle of the Colbert Height’s kickoff team and running 78 yards for the Bobcats’ final touchdown of the game, making the score 42-0.

Colbert Heights finally got on the board late in the fourth quarter.

Phil Campbell will host Lauderdale County Thursday night.
