Red Bay Tigers shoot for success in second year

The Red Bay volleyball team is in its second year of competitive play. The Tigers have a new coach, Amanda Ledbetter.

Q: Who are your top returning players?

A: Kaylie Lindley and Madeline Ledbetter are both returning as middle blockers. Both girls have worked hard this summer to improve their net play. I am hoping they can really bother our opponents this season.

Talli Hamilton has traded in her libero jersey for the setter position. Talli is quick, athletic and smart, and I feel very comfortable with her running our offense.

Anna Katherine Norwood has lots of experience and is one of the best serves on our team. Shelby Nichols is a utility player for us. She is able to fill the role of right, middle or outside.

Q: Who are some other players you expect to make an impact and why?

A: Kenzlee Bohannon and Gracie Weatherford complete our starting line up in the outside positions. Both girls played JV last year, but they gained valuable experience playing club ball in the off season. We really expect them to help us this year.

Q: What have you learned about your team through summer and heading into fall practice?

A: The Red Bay varsity and junior varsity teams were winless last season. I was concerned the girls wouldn’t take the sport seriously or that they wouldn’t show up at all this year. I was wrong. This team is only looking ahead. The players are willing to do the work to get better every day.

Q: What are your expectations of this team?

A: I want all three of our teams to be competitive in county and area play. We want to win sets. More importantly, we want to finish.

I would like to see each player improve in all aspects of the game.

Red Bay competes in Class 2A Area 10 with Tharptown, Sulligent and Lamar County.
