FCSO’s K-9 assists with high speed chase, arrest

An early morning police chase this weekend ended with one in custody at the Franklin County Detention Center.

Saturday, Franklin County deputies joined Marion County authorities in pursuit of a motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed northbound on Highway 43, just north of Hackleburg, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

FCSO deputies joined the pursuit near the Marion/Franklin county line, and the chase continued Highway 43 through the City of Russellville, Colbert and Lauderdale counties and into Limestone County.

According to the FCSO, multiple agencies were involved in the pursuit before it finally ended in Limestone County on the other side of Rogersville, where the suspect ran out of gas.

The suspect ran on foot from officers, according to the FCSO, but with the help of Franklin County K-9 Mambo, the suspect was taken into custody at approximately 4:35 a.m. without injury.

The suspect was identified as 23-year-old John David Gainey of Hamilton. He has been charged with numerous traffic violations, attempting to elude law enforcement, resisting arrest, possession of controlled substances and attempted assault on a peace officer.

Gainey is in custody at the Franklin County Detention Center to await arraignment on the charges.
