Council postpones Ronnie McDowell for 2020

The coronavirus continues to monopolize the headlines, and Franklin County events have not been immune to its effects. Because of the pandemic, the Franklin County Arts and Humanities Council has once again decided to reschedule the Ronnie McDowell concert, pushing it to March 20, 2021.

“Of course, we all want everything to return back to normal, but unfortunately, recent data indicates an increase of COVID-19 cases in our area, making it one of the hotspots in north Alabama,” said arts council’s Susie Malone.

Malone said McDowell expressed disappointment in the decision but understood the dilemma, as rescheduling events has become the norm for everyone and everywhere.

“This and other decisions regarding the entertainment at the Historic Roxy Theatre have been difficult,” said Malone. “Just as other entertainment venues, small businesses, retail stores, etcetera, the Franklin County arts council has been effected by the coronavirus pandemic. However, the safety and health of our patrons are more important.”

Malone said the council appreciates everyone’s understanding and support “as we continue to coordinate our events during this challenging and rapidly changing time.”

“You have our commitment that the Arts Council will make every effort to do what is best for our community,” Malone added.

The reserved tickets that have already been purchased for this year’s McDowell concert will be honored March 20, 2021.

Malone said the council hopes to soon reopen the Roxy’s doors for the monthly KGB shows as well as annual favorites like “The Great Pretenders” and “The Roxy’s Christmas Spectacular.”

“In the meantime, continue to take caution in helping prevent further COVID-19 outbreak in our community,” Malone said. “Many challenges have been experienced during this COVID-19 outbreak since the quarantine restrictions were issued in March. Everyone is commended for their patience and perseverance during this time.”
