Softball: New coach preps to lead Wildcats

Brooklyn Clark said she is excited to lead her first high school softball program. Clark was hired this year to take over the Tharptown Wildcats program left vacant when Susie Tverberg transferred to Belgreen.

Clark has worked as an assistant at Brooks High School and the University of North Alabama. She was also a standout player for the UNA Lions.

Clark has spent the year getting to know her players, watching them work out and play other sports, and she said she is excited to see them on the field.

“We haven’t had much time on the field because of the weather, but I really like our team’s chemistry,” said Clark. “They work well together, and they all seem to like each other, and that goes a long way.”

The Wildcats will return a lot of veteran talent. Seniors are Olivia Ergle (P, 1B), Shaylee Wieting (SS) and Brook Daily (CF). Underclassmen include sophomores Taylor Cameron (P, 3B, 1B), Madison Vandiver ( C ) and Leslie Staggs (1B).

“We have a deep pitching staff and an experienced catcher, and that is big for a team,” explained Clark. “To be successful, we are going to have to get some timely hits and eliminate as many errors as possible.”

Tharptown will play in an area with Colbert County, Sheffield and Red Bay.
