Red Bay teams pick up wins

BOYS

The Red Bay Tiger boys picked up three wins last week: against Phil Campbell, Sulligent and Haleyville.

Braden Ray led the Tigers in all three matchups.

Red Bay 64, Phil Campbell 43

Ray went eight-for-eight from the free throw line and scored 22 points in a 64-43 win over Phil Campbell Jan. 20.

Red Bay jumped out to a 17-5 lead over the Bobcats and led 34-21 at halftime.Phil Campbell cut Red Bay’s lead to 48-37 by the end of the third quarter before the Tigers closed out the game, outscoring the Bobcats 16-6.

Dawson Wright hit three three-pointers and scored nine points for Red Bay. Jalen Vinson scored eight points, six in the first quarter. Arden Hamilton and Lane Shewbart added six points each, and Clay Allison tallied five points. Hunter Burks and Jayden Anderson scored three points each, and Alex Kennedy added two points.

Luke Garrison led Phil Campbell with 11 points, including seven in the third quarter. Dylan Jeane added 10 points. Brett Saint had eight points, Trenton McCulloch four points and Blaine Goodson three points. Ben Williams and Hunter Saint added two points each. Jonah Fisher finished with one point.

Red Bay 56, Sulligent 35

Red Bay hit eight three-pointers on the way to routing area opponent Sulligent 56-35.

Red Bay jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead and extended that lead to 27-16 by halftime. The Tigers put the game away in the third quarter when Ray hit three shots from beyond the arch to outscored Sulligent 14-6 and take a 41-22 lead.

Ray led Red Bay with 13 points. Shewbart and Allison scored 11 points each. Vinson added nine points, Arden Hamilton four points, Wright three points, Tanner Hamilton two points, Kennedy two points and Burks one point.

Red Bay 51, Haleyville 30

Ray and Shewbart led Red Bay to a convincing win over Class 4A Haleyville 51-30.

Ray and Shewbart scored 10 points each in the win.

GIRLS

Macy Faulkner scored 24 points to lead the Red Bay Tigers past the Sulligent Blue Devils 39-24 in overtime last week.

Faulkner went 13-of-22 from the free-throw line in the win.

Red Bay led Sulligent 11-8 at the end of the first quarter, but the Blue Devils cut the lead to 19-17 at halftime. Red Bay extended the lead to 26-21 by the end of the third quarter. Sulligent outscored Red Bay 10-5 in the fourth quarter to tie the game and send it to overtime.

Destiny McCollister scored five of her 10 points in overtime to help the Tigers secure the win.

Cassidy Kuykendall added three points, and Lila Blackburn tacked on two points.

Red Bay 43, Haleyville 24

Faulkner’s big third quarter help the Red Bay Tigers route the Haleyville Lions 43-24 last week. Faulkner nailed four three-pointers in the Tigers’ 26-point third quarter run.

Haleyville led Red Bay 9-5 at the end of the first quarter and 14-11 at halftime – but Red Bay, sparked by Faulkner, exploded in the third quarter, outscoring Haleyville 26-6 to take a 37-20 lead.

Faulkner led with 19 points, followed by Destiny McCollister with 10 points.
