Russellville fifth-, sixth-grade volleyball places second in state

Russellville Parks and Recreation Department is used to seeing success from its teams, but this year, teams reached new heights, as the fifth- and sixth-grade all-star volleyball team placed second in the state.

The team competed in Jasper in the first week of November. Of the 12 teams competing, Russellville’s team came in second.

“We are just so proud of all our teams for their hard work and success,” said Parks and Recreation youth sports operations/facilities manager Donnie Flanagan. “We love to see any time our kids can go out and succeed.”

Flanagan said the Parks and Recreation Department sends two teams to compete each year, but this is the first year to his knowledge that a volleyball team has placed so well.

The team consisted of Khristyan Huerta, Addison Holcomb, Jemma Moore, Karrah Nichols, Haylee Patrick, Haley Baker, Abrianna McCulloch and Fatima Ramirez. The coach for the team was Matthew Duncan.
