Belgreen teams face Hackleburg

Baseball

The young Belgreen Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker in the second game of their area series against the Hackleburg Panthers. Belgreen lost both games in the series, 7-8 and 6-13.

In game one, Belgreen led 3-1 at the end of the first inning. Hackleburg came back to tie the game with a run in the third and a run in the fourth. Belgreen reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the fourth 4-3, but Hackleburg would score two runs in fifth, five in the sixth and three in the seventh to run away with the opening game in the series.

Belgreen committed 10 fielding errors in the game, leading to the loss.

Belgren got a big game at the plate by Jacob Flemming, who had three hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Carson Cox had two hits, including a double, and scored two runs.

In game two, the Bulldogs took the Panthers to extra innings before losing on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the ninth inning, 8-7.

The Bulldogs took a 7-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning and had to be feeling good about their chances to pick up the area win. The Panthers, however, responded with five runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game.

Canaan Stough had a hit and two RBIs and scored a run. Jacob Fleming had two hits, including an RBI-double.
