Victorious memories

Belgreen High School recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of the school’s only boys basketball team to have made it to the finals of the state tournament.

The celebration coincided with the Bulldogs’ final regular season home game, against the Deshler Tigers. Deshler is coached by Brian Pounders, a Belgreen alum and the son of the coach of the 1994 team, Steve Pounders.

The game was played in Belgreen’s old gym, and this year’s team wore throwback jerseys in honor of the occasion.

Nine of the 11 members of the team returned for the game, including all five starters. The school hosted a reception for the team in the balcony of the old gym, where the coach’s office was once located.
