    FC teams take on nearby competition

    Varsity boys

    Phil Campbell 69, Phillips 31

    The Phil Campbell Bobcats easily defeated the Phillips Bears last week in front of the Bobcat student body. The boys took advantage of a raucous crowd to blow away the Bears 69-31.

    Phil Campbell hit ten three-pointers, with Luke Garrison and Isaac Riddle accounting for three each.

    Phil Campbell jumped out to a 27-5 first quarter lead and extended the lead to 20-6 by halftime as they cruised to the easy win.

    Garrison, Riddle and Ben Williams each had 11 points. Brett Saint added 10 points. Ridge Raper finished the game with nine points, Austen Baker with five points, Nate Owens with five points, Easton Cummings with four points and Seth Baker with four points.

    Belgreen 75, Shoals Christian 38

    Brant Bragwell scored 22 points as the Belgreen Bulldogs easily defeated the Shoals Christian Flame 75-38.

    Belgreen led 22-10 at the end of the first period and extended that lead to 45-22 by halftime to coast to the win.

    Mason Bragwell and Scout Bragwell added 17 points and 13 points respectively. Isac Willingham scored six points. Gaven Taylor, David Plott and Will Donohoe scored four points each. Tanner Warhurst finished with three points and Kostner Bryant with two points.

    Colbert County 57, Tharptown 38

    Colbert County limited the Tharptown boys to 10 points in the second and third quarters to go on to win 57-38.

    Tharptown led the Indians 11-8 at the end of the first quarter but were outscored 16-5 in the second quarter as Colbert County took a 24-16 halftime lead. The Indians outscored the Wildcats 19-5 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 43-21. Tharptown outscored Colbert County 17-14 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough.

    Winston Nolen led Tharptown with 18 points. Edward Lopez followed with 10 points. Carson Petree had five points, and Reuben Alfaro added two points. Tristan Brasuell, Hayden Moss and Les Montgomery had one point each.

    Hackleburg 90, Vina 57

    The Vina Red Devil boys lost to the Hackleburg Panthers 90-57 last week.

    Vina trailed 50-27 at halftime but had a big 23-point third quarter.

    Jackson Landers led Vina with 18 points. He was followed by Timmy Newell with 15 points and Brodie Pardue with 10 points. Braden Moomaw added seven points, Haze Weatherford two points, Dawson Miller three points, Glen Ashley one point and Zack Davidson one point.

    Colbert County 56, Phil Campbell 50

    The Phil Campbell boys led the Colbert County Indians going into the fourth quarter but couldn’t hang on, losing 56-50.

    Phil Campbell led Colbert County 11-8 at the end of the first quarter. The Indians outscored the Bobcats 15-12 in the second quarter to tie the game 23-23 at halftime. Phil Campbell outpaced Colbert County 19-18 to cling to a one-point lead heading into the final period, but the Indians stepped up the defense in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 15-8 to win the game.

    Riddle led the Bobcats with 15 points. Garrison and Saint added 11 points each. Williams and Easton Cummings scored four points each. Owens had three points, and Raper added two points.

    Rogers 48, Phil Campbell 27

    The Phil Campbell Bobcats struggled to score in a 48-27 loss to Rogers.

    Phil Campbell led 9-7 at the end of the first quarter but went cold from that point on, getting outscored 41-18.

    Saint led Phil Campbell with seven points. Garrison (5), Raper (4), Riddle (3), Luke Barnwell (3), Williams (2) and Cummings (2) also scored for Phil Campbell.

    Varsity girls

    Vina 68, Hackleburg 24

    The Vina Red Devils picked up a 68-24 area win over the Hackleburg Panthers last week. Vina led 24-4 at the end of one quarter and coasted to the victory.

    Kaitlyn King led with 20 points. Sarah Johnson had 11 points. Rayleigh Guin scored 11 points and had 12 assists. Sarah Scott added 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kaitlyn Athey scored six points, and Abbie Petree had two points.

    Vina 64, Brilliant 29

    The Vina Red Devils easily won an area matchup against the Brilliant Tigers last week, 64-29. Vina led Brilliant 20-9 at the end of the first period and extended the lead to 40-16 by halftime.

    Guin led the Red Devils with 20 points and 11 assists. Petree added nine points. Emma Humphres ended the game with 10 points and 11 rebounds. King added eight points. Anna Belle Humphres chipped in two points, and Athey scored two points. Scott added three points and 10 rebounds.
