RFD donates $1,500 to Russellville Hospital
Nov. 20 the Russellville Fire Department donated approximately $1,500 to Russellville Hospital.
RFD designs and sells T-shirts every year during the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The department donates the proceeds from the T-shirts to the hospital, and the hospital in turn uses that money to help provide diagnostic mammograms for patients who cannot afford them.
“The Firemen’s Fund is just one example of how Russellville Hospital and the Russellville Fire Department work together for the benefit of our community,” said Christine Stewart, CEO of Russellville Hospital. “I want to thank the Russellville Fire Department for their dedication and hard work. It is a privilege to work with the department in service of our community.”
RFD Capt. Randy Seal said about 400 shirts were sold this year. “We have been able to donate around $14,500 since we started this years ago,” Seal said.
Stewart the funds are set aside for those in need of assistance to cover the cost of a mammogram. “The hospital provides the mammograms, and the radiologist interprets the diagnostic test,” Stewart explained. “The physicians and registration clerks area aware of the program and will assist patients in applying for the fund benefit.”
