Tornado warnings sweep Franklin County
For two weeks in a row, severe weather swept through Franklin County from Mississippi, with
the threat of tornados looming large.
Nov. 1 and Nov. 5 tornado warnings were issued, but minimal damage occurred, according to
Franklin County EMA Director Jody Hitt.
The tornado Nov. 1, which whipped through Red Bay, was classified as an EF0. Fallen trees
were the only reported damage.
Nov. 5, two separate tornado warnings were issued during the night. The first storm cell came
from Tupelo, Miss., and moved a little north of Red Bay before heading farther north through
Colbert County and then into Tennessee. The second storm cell was lower and crossed over
Russellville.
“We came out of this very lucky and very blessed,” Hitt said.
Again, the only damage reported was fallen trees – around county roads 90, 84 and 187.
