Alana Reeves publishes her Christian children’s book

What started as a simple project for church turned into a publishing dream for Alana Reeves.
With much encouragement from her family, friends and church, “Beth, the Bethlehem Star” was
created.

Reeves and her family attend Calvary Baptist Church in Russellville, where the first spark of
imagination for this children’s book came from.
“I was asked to do the lesson portion of our “Happy Birthday Jesus” party for our children at
Calvary. I had a concept in mind but couldn’t find it. So, after my husband’s encouragement, I
began writing,” Reeves said.

She said she wanted to think of a fun way to explain the birth of the Savior and why she believes
the world needs the Savior. The story covers a large expanse of time, from the start of creation to
the birth of Christ.

Reeves revealed her poem at the Christmas party at the church and was encouraged to pursue
publishing “what God laid on her heart.”

“The actual writing of the poem took about 20-25 minutes one evening on my couch. God just let
the words pour onto my paper,” Reeves said.

The more difficult part came when she had to illustrate the book. She said she sketched and then
watercolor painted each piece. All total, it took her about four months.

“There were a few times where I felt so defeated,” she said. “My precious mother talked to me
every single day then continued to lift me up and motivate me. She kept me going.”

She published the book through Westbow Press, a smaller division of Zondervan Publishing.
“The main message I would hope people grasp from this book is that God’s timing is perfect.
Each of us have been created for His good purpose, and His love is everlasting,” Reeves said.
Calvary Baptist Church held a book launch for Reeves Nov. 4. Reeves read the book aloud to the
group, and refreshments were provided for the crowd.
