Council shares positive updates

Two announcements were made before the business portion of the Russellville City Council meeting Oct. 1.

Mayor David Grissom announced the city’s application for downtown Russellville to be classified as a historic district on the National Register was approved at the state level. Now the city is waiting for approval at the national level.

Grissom also announced work has begun on repairing the lights on Highway 24. He and Councilman Arthur Elliott have sent a letter to the Alabama Department of Transportation requesting help in replacing the outdated lighting on Highway 24 and Highway 43.

Actions taken at the meeting included:

  • Approving the proposal with Civil Group for engineering services for the 2018 TAP Project on Montgomery Street and Limestone Street between Washington Avenue and Coffee Avenue.
  • Approving the transfer of $2,000 to the Franklin County Commission for the city’s share of Franklin County Archives Director Chris Ozbirn’s salary.
  • Accepting the bid received for the sale of the Caterpillar scraper/pan for $45,000.
  • Authorizing the purchase of a 2019 Dodge Durango for the police department for $44,333.89.
  • Authorizing an abatement of nuisance at 1101 North Washington Ave.
