Homefolks U.S.A.

Hi folks,

The month of September 2018 has passed, and during this month, we have seen the arrival of fall.

The season begins to change, and we see the handiwork of God at work. So many folks will go to the Great Smoky Mountains, and the beauty of the season will certainly be on display there. The beauty of our county will not be as beautiful as the Smokies, but it will be beautiful just the same.

Many years ago, I always looked forward to September because that was the beginning of the hunting season. I have been on a lot of hunting trips but was never much of a hunter. I was a poor shot, but the ones I hunted with would share their game with me.

In looking over some old pictures, I found one of Rondel Trapp, Jimmy Mashburn and myself after a day of quail hunting. We had about 20 quails on display that we had for that day of hunting. Jimmy and Rondel killed all of them, and they were kind enough to let me be in the picture with them.

I spent many days deer hunting but never killed a deer, and I am really glad I didn’t. They are such beautiful animals.

I enjoyed every day that I spent with good friends on hunting trips, but a good hunter I am not.

We have so many good memories of those bygone days with so many great friends.

The month of September has been so wonderful for many – and sad for some of our family as well.

One person who has been a friend to so many – a good family man, a good influence on so many and a dear friend – passed away this month. I observed conversation of many people as they discussed how he would be missed and how he had helped their families in so many ways. On the day of his passing a cloud of sadness settled on Franklin County. The discussions that I observed were all about how he would be missed and the many ways that he had served his county. He was a productive citizen, and he loved his fellow man. I’m sure he was very proud of his family, and I always considered him a good friend.

We will all miss our friend, Mr. Floyd Tirey. Our condolences go out to every member of his family.

Til next time,

Your friend,

Bobby

Thought for the Day

Every night before I go to sleep, I ask God to watch over me during the night, and I don’t stay awake to see if he does.
