Newspaper offers real estate for sale, seeks property in downtown Russellville
The Franklin County Times and Franklin County Newspapers Inc. announced Monday plans to move its operation downtown.
The company is putting its building and land at 14131 Alabama Highway 43 Bypass on the market for sale and seeking downtown property to rent or buy. This is a decision just made, so no timetable is yet available.
The decision has been under consideration for more than a year, and with the ongoing revitalization in downtown Russellville, Times management seeks to join that effort.
“This will usher in a new era of our service to Russellville and Franklin County, another step in our near 140 years of service” said managing editor Alison James. “Our current facilities are much larger than a modern print and digital news organization requires.
“A convenient downtown location will offer greater opportunity for our subscribers, customers and friends to stop in and pick up a newspaper or a copy of Franklin Living, get help on their digital use of our products and, hopefully, share a news tip or subscribe to our services,” James added.
“During the transition period, our consistent weekly coverage of our community can be counted on, and newspaper subscribers will not experience any change in delivery schedule. Having been here since 1879, we are going back to what Russellville Mayor David Grissom has always referred to as ‘the heartbeat of the community.’”
