Russellville Parks and Rec announces after-school program

Russellville’s Parks and Recreation After-school Program kicked off Aug. 13 at the Ralph Bishop Center and the Chucky Mullins Center.

The free program runs Monday through Thursday from 3-6 p.m. and is open to any child in kindergarten through 12th grade who wishes to attend, whether they go to a Russellville City School or not, according to Carrie Dover with Russellville Parks and Rec.

Two certified teachers will be onsite to tutor children who need or want the help, and other workers will be present to assist with the program in any way they can.

A free snack and dinner will be provided for the students.

This is the second year the program will be available at the Bishop Center. Dover said the turnout last year was good, especially with it being the first year.

“We averaged about 20-25 children every day,” she said.

The turnout at the Chucky Mullins Center is higher because of its location, but there is a bus drop-off point near the Bishop Center, as well.

“If parents want their child to take the bus to either location, they have to set that up themselves. We can’t do it for them,” Dover said.
