Majorettes announce Watermelon Run, Aug. 18

As the much-celebrated Watermelon Festival inches closer, more details are being finalized for events taking place that weekend. The annual Watermelon Run has been scheduled for Aug. 18, with registration starting at 6:45 a.m. at Russellville High School.

The annual Watermelon Run is sponsored by the M100 RHS Majorettes.

There are two parts to the event: the 5K and the one-mile fun run. The 5K will start at 7:30 a.m., and the one-mile fun run will start approximately 10 minutes after the 5K is finished.

Awards categories for the 5K include Top 3 Overall Times, Male and Female, Masters Male and Female over 40 and 1st-3rd place in the male and female age groups: 1-10, 11-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-plus.

For the one-mile fun run, awards will be given to the top three males and females in the following age groups: 0-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 13-16.

Pre-registration deadline is Aug. 9, and pre-registered participants are guaranteed a Watermelon Run T-shirt. Pre-registration for the 5K is $20, and one-mile fun run pre-registration is $15. Day-of 5K registration is $25, and the one-mile fun run is $20.
