Market gives free tomato sandwiches

Tomatoes are a Southern food staple, whether they are served as part of salads, sides or sandwiches. The month of July falls right smack in the middle of tomato season, which means they can be found at farmers markets everywhere – especially the Franklin County Farmers Market.

To celebrate this fruit, the Franklin County Farmers Market – located adjacent to the A.W. Todd Center in downtown Russellville – and the Franklin County Extension Office will be giving away free tomato sandwiches July 27 beginning at 10:30 a.m.

In the meantime, fresh veggie lovers are encouraged to drop by the market, which is open Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 6 a.m. to noon. Vendors always have a variety of produce like corn, peas, okra and, of course, tomatoes.
