Homefolks U.S.A.

Hi folks,

The year 2018 is half over. It seems that just a few days ago we were celebrating New Year’s Day, reminding every reader of Homefolks U.S.A. to have that hog jowl and black-eyed peas ready for that traditional meal.

The month of June brings many events to our attention.

Flag Day is celebrated June 14. We encourage everyone to display their flags and remember the great sacrifice of many, which made the day possible.

Memorial Day kicked off the holiday season, and we hope everyone had a great Memorial Day. Glen and Janice Taylor certainly made this holiday special for us with a good smoked Boston butt. These were sold by members of the church they attend, and the smoked meat was very tasty. I hope their efforts were successful in getting money for worthwhile event and progress for their church.

So we observed Memorial Day, and now Flag Day, and next month the Fourth of July will continue to add to our patriotism theme for 2018.

The election was held June 5, and by the time you read this story, you will know who the nominees for the General Election in November will be and who will fill some offices.

The candidates have really made an effort to get their advertising materials before the public, and almost every night my phone has rung, asking for me to participate in an election survey. I truly hope that every person seeking office has good intention of serving the people in our state. We encourage everyone to exercise their right to vote in every election.

The summertime brings a lot of joy to many of us. I love to see nature come to life again. Flowers are beginning to bloom, trees are putting on new growth, and gardens are beginning to grow.

It’s always good to see the Farmers Market in Russellville taking shape, with farmers bringing their goods to be sold.

I saw a group of young children chasing lightning bugs a few nights ago. This brings back a lot of memories. I wonder what happened to the “June Bug” that use to visit every year. They have disappeared as so many other creatures have gone, as well.

We hope everyone has a great summer, and we hope everyone will be safe and enjoy the beautiful months ahead. We have a lot of new stories for the coming month, and we hope and trust you will continue to enjoy stories from Homefolks U.S.A.

Til next time,

Your friend,

Bobby

Thought for the Day
