RPD arrests attempted murder suspect

After a brief foot chase and questioning, the Russellville Police Department took Javorse Yarbough into custody May 1.

According to RPD Sgt. Jake Thompkins, Yarbough had an active warrant from Franklin County for attempted murder.

RPD officers responded to a call at a business in Russellville about a person passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle. When officers arrived on the scene and started talking to the man, he gave them what they believed to be a false name, according to Tompkins.

Tompkins said investigators soon arrived on the scene and were able to identify the subject as Yarbough. The suspect fled on foot, triggering a foot pursuit by the RPD. Officers were able to catch Yarbough on Waterloo Road and take him into custody.

During the stop, Tompkins said officers found synthetic marijuana in the suspect’s vehicle.

Yarbough was charged with failure to appear on a warrant, possession of a controlled substance – synthetic marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and giving a false name to obstruct law enforcement.

He is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail.
