Vina gets win over Hubbertville

Austin Harper led the Vina Red Devils to a 4-1 win over the Hubbertville Tigers Friday.

Outhit 7-5, the Red Devils took advantage of their opportunities to secure the win. Vina scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to get all the advantage the Red Devils would need.

Harper went 3-for-4 in the leadoff spot for Vina and scored a run.

Tanner McCalister scored Vina’s first run in the bottom of the second inning on a passed ball to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead. Braden Moomaw scored on an error by the Hubbertville catcher to give Vina a 2-0 lead.  Harper scored on a sacrifice fly to round out the Vina scoring in the second inning.

The Hubbertville Tigers scored their lone run in the top of the sixth inning. Vina responded with another run of in the bottom of the sixth inning when Moomaw scored his second run of the game on an RBI-single by Blake Hardin.

Austin Childers got the win for the Red Devils, pitching a complete game, allowing seven hits and one run and striking out ten batters.
