Sears firing cause remains unconfirmed
Rumors and questions are circling around Russellville after the termination of Chad Sears as the superintendent of the Russellville Parks and Recreation Department at the April 2 Russellville City Council meeting, but there has been no confirmation of reason by the councilmen or Mayor David Grissom.
Grissom declined to comment because of policy protecting what is discussed in the city council’s executive sessions when it regards personnel issues.
After the session concluded, Councilman Gary Cummings made the motion to terminate Sears from his position because of allegations concerning his ability to perform his duties, but the allegations were not named. Councilman Jamie Harris seconded the motion. The sole nay vote was from Councilman Arthur Elliott.
Sears has held the superintendent position since 2006. He could not be reached for comment prior to press deadline.
The council declared a vacancy for the position and authorized the job to be advertised. Leamon Mosley was declared the interim superintendent starting April 3 until a permanent replacement is found.
