City council announces headliner for Jam on Sloss

Planning for Russellville’s annual Fourth of July celebration, Jam on Sloss Lake, is now underway. At the April 16 Russellville City Council meeting, councilmembers voted to approve the signing of the contract with American country music artist Darryl Worley, who will be the headliner of the musical entertainment.

Worley has produced several No. 1 hits, including “I Miss My Friend,” “Awful, Beautiful Life” and “Have You Forgotten?”

Councilman Gary Cummings said he reached out to Worley through his manager and organized the deal. Cummings said now that the contract is authorized, the rest of the planning will go pretty quickly and smoothly.

The council voted to have Cummings preside over the celebration again this year, and the council approved the fireworks agreement.

Other actions taken at the meeting included, among others:

  • accepting the bid received from Aqua Marine Enterprises for the installation of a community storm shelter at Lee Sports Complex in District 5.
  • approving the resolution requiring department heads to reside in the city limits of Russellville.
