RPD arrests one for sexual abuse

Earlier this month Luciano Lopez, 22, was booked into the Franklin County Jail for a sexual abuse charge.

Franklin County DHR contacted Russellville Police Department with concerns about Lopez at the beginning of March, according to Sgt. Jake Tompkins.

“They let us know of a situation involving a small child,” Tompkins said.

When RPD got involved, investigators began gathering facts regarding the inappropriate touching of a child, Tompkins said. They talked to family members and the victim during the course of the investigation.

Lopez was soon picked up and interviewed by investigators. Tompkins said it was during this interview March 13 that Lopez admitted to the crime.

He was charged with the sexual abuse of a child less than 12 years old, and he is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail.
